MNTRH collaborative meeting with NCCK.
Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital held a collaborative meeting with the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) (National Council of Churches of Kenya Office )to boost its partnership. The meeting brought together key stakeholders on supporting vulnerable populations, particularly in mental health care. In attendance were representatives from the Department of Refugee Services, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency , HIAS Kenya, and Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), alongside hospital leadership.The discussion majored on the issue of abandoned patients, highlighting challenges in psychiatric care where individuals are left without family or guardian support. Participants explored ways to strengthen coordination, improve referral pathways, and develop strategies for better management and prevention of such cases through enhanced inter-agency collaboration. The session concluded with commitments to ongoing joint efforts, fostering a more robust support system for affected patients.
