MNTRH Hosts CHERP-MOH/WB Delegation for Telepsychiatry Center Setup
14th January 2024 – Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital (MNTRH) hosted a delegation from CHERP-MOH/WB to discuss the establishment of the MNTRH Telepsychiatry Center. The meeting, led by CEO Dr. Julius Ogato, focused on the key steps to initiate the project and enhance mental health care in Kenya.
The discussions centered around three main points:
1. Introduction and Handover of the Contractor: The procurement department formally introduced the contractor, marking the start of the project.
2. Induction on Safeguard Requirements: The contractor was briefed on the World Bank and Ministry of Health’s environmental and social safeguard requirements to ensure the project adheres to international standards.
3. Official Site Handover: The site for the project was officially handed over to the contractor by the procurement team, MNTRH, and the Contract Implementation Team (CIT).
The Telepsychiatry Center will provide critical support in expanding access to mental health services, particularly in rural and underserved regions of Kenya. By leveraging technology, the project aims to bridge the gap in mental health care delivery, aligning with Kenya’s broader health goals of improving service access and quality.
This collaboration with CHERP, the Ministry of Health, and the World Bank marks a significant milestone for mental health care in Kenya, offering long-term benefits to the nation’s mental health system.
