SHA sensitization and registration campaign in Nyamira county.

Dr. Julius Ogato, the CEO of Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital (MNTRH), joined the Governor of Nyamira County at Uhuru Gardens in Nyamira for the official launch of the mass Social Health Authority (SHA) registration initiative. This event marks a key step in the ongoing nationwide drive to expand access to essential healthcare services through SHA registration, a program designed to ensure that all Kenyans, including those in Nyamira County, have access to affordable and quality healthcare.

In his capacity as a representative of the national government, Dr. Ogato emphasized the vital role of SHA in advancing the country’s healthcare goals. He pointed out that the initiative is a cornerstone of the government’s broader agenda to ensure universal health coverage and improve the wellbeing of all citizens. To support the success of this important exercise, Dr. Ogato had assigned a dedicated team from MNTRH to lead the registration efforts in Nyamira County, ensuring that local residents have the opportunity to register and benefit from the program.

During his address, Dr. Ogato highlighted the many advantages of SHA membership, including enhanced access to medical care, financial protection against health-related costs, and the promotion of preventative health services. He urged all stakeholders, including local government officials, community leaders, and healthcare providers, to fully engage in the registration process and support its seamless implementation. The CEO stressed that the success of this initiative depends on the active participation of all parties, and that ensuring the full registration of Nyamira residents is a collective responsibility.

The CEO also took the opportunity to commend the leadership and residents of Nyamira County for their commendable achievement in registering 86,000 members to date. He expressed his confidence that, with continued collaboration and commitment, Nyamira County could surpass its current registration numbers and achieve the ambitious target of registering 500,000 members before the Jamhuri Day celebrations. Dr. Ogato emphasized that teamwork and sustained effort would be critical to reaching this goal and ensuring that every eligible resident is included in the SHA program.

This event not only marked the launch of the registration campaign but also underscored the national government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and equity across Kenya. Dr. Ogato’s leadership and the partnership between MNTRH, Nyamira County, and other stakeholders continue to play a pivotal role in driving the success of this initiative and in advancing the health agenda for the nation.
